Bernie Is In!

Bernie Sanders Announces He Is Running For President, As A Democrat

Earlier this week Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders formally entered the Democratic Primary for 2016.  Senator Sanders becomes the first challenger to enter the race just shy of two weeks after Hillary Clinton announced her candidacy.

"People should not underestimate me," Sanders told the AP. "I've run outside of the two-party system, defeating Democrats and Republicans, taking on big-money candidates and, you know, I think the message that has resonated in Vermont is a message that can resonate all over this country."

Regardless of his field of potential opponents, Sanders said that "the question is whose views come closer to representing the vast majority of working people in this country. And you know what? I think my views do."

Sanders is an outspoken critic of the proliferation of big money politics.  He regularly rails against the Koch Brothers, the Republican uber-donors, and has said that his campaign would be devoid of "billionaires."

At the bottom of his website, underneath the required phrase "Paid For By Bernie 2016," his website proclaims, "Not The Billionaires."

Republican lawmakers will overhaul Wisconsin's prevailing wage law but lack the votes for a full repeal, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said Wednesday.

The 84-year-old law prescribes wages for workers on public works jobs such as bridges and highways according to a complex formula. Conservatives are targeting the law as their next big push after passing right-to-work legislation in March, which prohibits labor groups and employers from agreeing to require workers to pay fees to a union.

This Saturday the Greenfield School District, the City of Greenfield Beautification Committee, and the City of Greenfield Tree Commission, celebrated Arbor Day with the creation of an arborarium at Maple Grove Elementary.  Dozens of students and community members (including County Supervisor Tony Staskunas, pictured above) pitched in to provide a unique learning experience for the students of Greenfield.
